chambers, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, paul. >>> in morgan hill police are warning residents about a recent increase in the number of burglaries. in fact, there's been a significant increase in one particular part of the city. janine de la vega joins us live to explain where that is and exactly what police are doing right now. janine? >> reporter: tori, we just saw police and patrol cars here in the area. those investigators are tracking down leads. they are trying to find the people who are burglarizing homes and cars in this green leaf neighborhood off east dunn avenue. many of the people who live in these homes behind nordstrom elementary school are in the holiday spirit, but there's been some grinches stealing that way away from homeowners. a week ago, someone broke into this woman's home. >> it was disturbing coming in knowing that they had been in. that's why i have not slept good. >> reporter: thieves took electronics and valuables. then her neighbor's car was i had. police say there have been 23 burglaries in the area. 15 cars have been broken into. in some instance, the wi

bridge. lorraine blanco, ktvu channel 2 news. >>> good afternoon. it's just messy out there. you saw from lorraine's report. you probably felt it this morning. hit the north bay earlier today. over the last couple of hours you can see the time lapse over the last few hours. it's moved through the central and south bay. at this time, it's actually tapered off a little bit as the first in a series of storms continues to march through the bay area. we've got some light rain over santa rosa and petaluma. in the last 12 hours, santa rosa has picked up about an inch and a half of rain. quite a bit of rainfalling over the north bay this morning. we have some steady rain along the east bay. oakland, san leandro and farther south we had rain falling near union city. it looks like it has since broken away with some rain moderate at times falling over pleasant tonight and 680 -- pleasant and 680. we have -- pleasanton and 680. we have a snow advisory. blue canyon right a about 5,000. they will fluctuate throughout the weekend. we'll bring you more on what you can expect including a time frame to pla
our commute, coming up at noon. . >>> this is ktvu channel 2 news at noon. >>> they are concerned about a levee at a bay area creek. the bay area is getting a one day break from the rains this christmas eve and we are looking at flood fears and power problems, and as we look live out over the bay it is pretty outside but there are left over issues related to the storms. we begin with developing news, a water-main break is causing some headaches in marin county. alex savage has the latest details on whether it is causing any traffic problems, good afternoon alex. >> reporter: the water has been shut off where that water-main broke. this was a 12-inch line which burst this morning and the pressure from underground pushed up the roadway and they tell me for a time there was a threat of a sinkhole. the broken main sent water rushing down bell lane. it happened at 9:30 a.m. in an unincorporated valley known as cam valley. police urged people to move their cars off the street with the concern being the roadway may cave in. i spoke with them and they said all of that rushing water was do
years after his death, the case of oscar grant was back in court this morning. ktvu's brian flores joins us live from outside of the courthouse in san francisco to explain what was at stake. good afternoon, brian. >> reporter: hey, good afternoon, tori. well, what was at stake today was a civil case. but there was no decision made today here inside san francisco federal court. on the case of johannes mehserle and other officers involved in the shooting of oscar grant during a new year's party a few years ago. now, attorneys for anthony p. eroni and johannes mehserle argued they should be offered immunity because they argued the shooting was an accident. they also say it was tragic but there was reasonable actions by the officers to act the way they did. meanwhile, the attorneys for the victims and four others claim it was not an accident, that they were defenseless and should not be granted qualified immunity of the law. here's what both sides had to say. >> what it means is the simple fact that our rights have been violated. those young men are tie to us as a family -- are tied to us as
's no date set for the next public protection committee hearing yet. live in oakland, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you, alley. >>> this morning, a young man in oakland was hospitalized in serious condition after he had been shot several times. the shooting took place just after 9:00 a.m. at east 31st street and 13th avenue. that's one block from highland hospital. police say the victim was shot multiple times and a witness told us it looked like he was injured in the leg e says someone drove the injured plan to the hospital and that he saw what was likely the gunman running from the scene. police say they have not yet determined a motive for the shooting. >>> a man is under arrest in connection with the kidnapping and assault of a 16-year-old autistic girl from oakland. she was taken last tuesday after leaving the fred finch youth center in oakland. staff members say they followed her for several blocks to the fruitvale b.a.r.t. station where they lost site of her. she was found two days later on a muni bus in san francisco. family members say she was badly beaten and sexu

to wait until january. reporting live, from washington d.c., alison burns. ktvu news. >>> well, a radio stunt by a pair of shock jocks took a tragic turn this morning. the nurse revealed confidential information has apparently committed suicide. tara moriarty has more. we have reaction from the couple and the hospital where she worked. >> well the nurse who transferred a prank phone call about the judges of cambridge has died in a suspected suicide two days after being duped, she was found dead near king edward's vii hospital. she was working on the switch board when the dj's coaxed her into transferring them for an update on the sickness of caught middleton. the duke and duchess of dame bridge are deeply sattenned and the complaint had not made a complaint about the planning call. it is not being treated as suspicious. authorities did not say if there was a suicide note or if her death was directly linked to the hoax which sparked outrage in britain. >> she was a victim of the hoax called to the hospital. the hospital had been supporting her through the difficult time. jacintha was a f
